What is seborrheic dermatitis on the underarms?

Seborrheic dermatitis on the underarms is a skin rash that causes:

  • Severe redness
  • Itching
  • Burning

Unlike in other areas of the body, seborrheic dermatitis on the underarms does not cause skin flaking. Seborrheic dermatitis does not appear to be linked to hyperhidrosis or the intake of particular foods. Seborrheic dermatitis is frequently misdiagnosed as other forms of dermatitis, or as allergic reactions to certain deodorants.

What are the causes of seborrheic dermatitis?

No precise cause of seborrheic dermatitis is known, however, it’s likely due to some sort of imbalance on the skin. This imbalance is also a likely cause of psoriasis, with which seborrheic dermatitis is often confused for. In addition, physical and/or psychological stresses can trigger or prevent the treatment of seborrheic dermatitis.

Treatment

It is important to seek a dermatological consultation to diagnose seborrhoeic dermatitis in the armpits. As a cosmetic adjuvant to treatment to dull redness and relieve itching and burning:

  • apply in the evening a layer of 2S Cream and massage gently. Seborrheic dermatitis will fade within one to two weeks of treatment.

Avoid using water and detergents or soaps to wash the underarm.

During treatment, avoid using water and detergents or soaps to wash the underarm. Instead, wash the area with a cotton cloth soaked in aqueous benzalkonium solution.

Dermatitis slowly goes away within one to two weeks.

Once the skin of the underarm has returned to normal, resume cleansing using Eudermic Cleansing Base. As an antiperspirant, apply Everydeo after washing and drying.
