What is ichthyosis?
Ichthyosis is a genetic disorder that alters the way in which the stratum corneum develops.
The name comes from the Greek root for “fish” due to the dry, scaly skin that is a defining feature of the condition.
What does ichthyosis look like?
There are many different types of ichthysosis.
Depending on the severity of the disease, the appearance of the ichthyosis can vary drastically between sufferers. Despite this, the most common, shared symptoms are:
- extreme skin dryness
- Scaling
How to treat ichthyosis
To date, there is no known specific treatment for ichthyosis.
There are, however, products to help soothe, soften and smooth the skin.
