What is hyperhidrosis in the feet?

Hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweating, in the feet is fairly common because the sole of the foot is dense with sweat glands. Hyperhidrosis occurs when sweat glands overact, often as a result of stimuli such as high temperatures or from emotional stimuli, such as stress, fear or excitement. It can also be caused by genetic constitution. In serious cases, excessive sweating can trigger maceration and dermatitis, and, depending on its location, can negatively impact a sufferer’s social life.

What are the causes of hyperhidrosis in the feet?

The main causes of hyperhidrosis in the feet can be divided into the following categories:

  • Climatic: sweating due to high and humid temperatures
  • Emotional: sweating due to situations of particular stress or tension
  • Genetic: profuse sweating due to genetic constitution. Excessive sweating can cause maceration and chafing, which can later cause bacterial or fungal infections.

How to treat hyperhidrosis in the feet

Medical interventions such as botulinum toxin (botox) injections can improve hyperhidrosis. However, such treatment can be impractical as the injections can be demanding on the body and require readministration over time. Another surgical treatment for hyperhidrosis involves the clipping of the sympathetic nerve.

  • Wash feet carefully using Eudermic Cleansing Base
  • Dry the foot thoroughly, especially between the toes
  • Massage Astringent Gel into the skin each morning.

Thanks to aluminum chloride, the Astringent Gel temporarily disables sweat gland activity. Repeat application of the gel throughout the day as necessary.
