What is skin maceration?
Foot maceration occurs when the water content in the stratum corneum is excessive and, due to temperatures and humidity, bacteria are formed that can cause skin discomfort. Maceration usually occurs between the toes, where moisture stagnates the longest, but can also spread to the rest of the foot.
Macerated skin appears almost as if it has been cooked, which is a key difference when distinguishing it from hyperhidrosis.
What does skin maceration on the feet look like?
As macerated skin is easily detachable, it immediately becomes infected.
This infection causes the digestion of skin proteins and consequently destroys the epidermis, creating extensive and visible erosions.
What are the causes of skin maceration on the feet?
Skin maceration on the feet can be caused by several factors including:
- Heat
- Moisture
- Sweating
- Lack of perspiration
These triggers can occur following situations such as:
- Wearing shoes that are tight and/or made of non-breathable materials
- Walking or doing sport for an extended period
- Soaking feet in water for a long time
- Living in areas with hot and humid climates

How to treat macerated skin
As a remedy for maceration, we recommend the following treatment:
- In the morning, wash the feet with Eudermic Cleansing Base. After rinsing, dry the feet thoroughly, paying special attention to the skin between the toes to ensure no there is no residual moisture.
- Apply Everydeo under the plant and between the fingers, massaging until absorbed. This antiperspirant regulates sweating and counteracts bacterial growth, helping to keep skin dry and prevent maceration.
Should the maceration be between the toes, we recommend keeping them separated with the use of cotton gauze so that air can pass through.
To appreciate the effectiveness of the treatment, 4 to 5 days of constant application are needed.
It is also advisable, as soon as possible, to remove shoes and socks by wearing open footwear that allows the feet to ventilate.

PREVENTION
Before entering into a situation where maceration might occur:
- Everydeo as an anti-sweatshop in the evening
- Apply Soothing Cream as an absorbent and anti-friction agent before putting on shoes
